Summary
When I was a wee nipper we didn't have fish very often but when we did it was usually smoked haddock. Homeward bound after a day at school I remember walking up to the back door and the windows would be wide open with a sweet smokey aroma bellowing out.
I once heard two elderly ladies on a bench say 'so and so smokes his own fish you know' and for years thought that people gave the fish it's wonderful flavour by sitting in a potting shed with a fillet of fish and a pack of twenty Rothmans.
