Summary


ONE person, one vote sounds all right, but some people may feel dubious because of corruption, often displayed by representatives of the people, once elected into office. How do we build more accountability and responsibility into the system? Democracy may have its disadvantages but it still seems the best system of governance available to us. It may be better for most members of society than either the tyranny of dictatorship or the chaos of anarchy. Yet it has been tried and found wanting in the past. Let us never forget that Hitler came to power as the result of a democratic process. Once in power, he then was able to entrench himself by establishing a system of force to control his society and move it to do the evil he and his henchmen deliberately inspired.

They began by instigating hatred of one particular group from within German society: Jewish people. Most others thought that was just a problem for the Jews. However, although Hitler and his followers started with only the Jews, they didn't stop with them. They continued and attacked other members of German society - those who were physically disabled and the mentally ill.
