I AM an occasional user of the Severn Beach Line. It is a cheap and easy way to get from Temple Meads to Sea Mills station which is near where I live.
I used the line a few days ago, sitting in the front carriage, and was pleased to note that the train was almost full. I was amazed to see, however, that, by the time we arrived at Sea Mills, the guard/ticket collector had not finished taking money or checking tickets even for the rear carriage - let alone reached the front one! Surely First Great Western can do better than this? The service is being subsidised by Bristol City Council, enabling a half-hourly service - and leading to increased numbers of passengers. But we should expect First Great Western to respond by maximising the receipts from tickets, as well as giving a true picture of the number of passengers using the service.See the full content of this document
