THE gloomy cells of the old Bridewell Police Station may have hosted their last miscreants six years ago, but could there still be a few tortured souls left lingering in the darkness of the maudlin lock-ups? Despite officially closing in 2005, some believe the former Central Police Station, in Nelson Street, known as "The Bridewell", may be haunted by the ghosts of inmates past.

Today, the basement of the imposing 1930s police station is eerily quiet - and looking exactly as it did when the final custody sergeant locked up the cells for the last time.
