APIONEERING team of pharmacists and computer programmers in Bristol has devised a computer system which ensures patients in care homes get the right drugs, a move which is saving NHS organisations millions of pounds a year.
Pharmacy Plus has designed the unique system which is being used in 300 care homes. Its Proactive Care System (PCS) improves control of the dispensing of medication using barcode technology and carers working with hand-held computers that calculate which medicines are due to be given to patients and when. Before the drug is dispensed carers have to make an identity check on the patient whose photo appears on the computer screen.See the full content of this document
