THERE is a strange irony that John Bartlett has to get his head around. It's funny to think that the society he set up three decades ago to investigate the local history of Fishponds has now become a part of the district's history itself.

The Fishponds Local History Society has evolved into an established part of the north Bristol district's way of life, with its monthly meeting regularly attracting between 40 and 50 local history buffs - all keen to hear the latest thoughts on the area's past.
