Summary
PC Hudd (On the Beat Evening Post September 8) makes very important points about the essential need for witnesses to come to court to help brings offenders to justice. He also, rightly, acknowledges the stress and anxiety which going to court can create for a witness. However, he did muddle his facts. The support given to witnesses at court is provided by the Witness Service (not the Witness Care Unit). The Witness Service is run by Victim Support, an independent charity, and provides free, confidential support to all witnesses of crime, (prosecution and defence) both within the court building and in the court room itself.
Moreover, this support is provided by highly trained and skilled local volunteers, whose work and efforts and almost always highly praised by those who use our service.See the full content of this document
