Superstore Survey a Waste of Time and Money ; Here's What You Think ... Sainsbury's at Ashton

Summary

WHAT a waste of time and the misuse of public funds for the council to pay for Clifton based GVA to conduct a survey which could only be negative owing to its narrow brief. (Consultants' report against Sainsbury's, Post, February 17) Did they not realise there has been a Sainsbury's here in Ashton for almost 20 years? The shops are still in North Street and they are widely used by local people. We have used them for 28 years and will continue to do so if/when the new store is built, even though we shop at Sainsbury's as well. We believe that people will continue to use these shops because of what they offer in terms of quality and the more personal service they receive. They state that there could be job losses, but what about the hundreds created? We also fail to see why they mention East Street, which is already covered by Asda.

Their prices are generally cheaper than Sainsbury's anyway, so that is not relevant. I agree with the Evening Post editorial, which suggests this is nothing more than a means to block the new stadium and thus deny a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity for development of three sites and create many new jobs. Why don't the council just say that they will/ will not back the stadium rather than hide behind these smokescreens? Phil and Lin Hutchings, Ashton . Is the Pope a Catholic? I ask because in Tuesday's paper you headlined on the front page that 'more than 8,000 people have signed a petition in support of a new Sainsbury's superstore at Ashton Gate.' Really? You surprise me!
