Summary
Song 'Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)' by Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge, Rihanna IT was an unlikely pairing to put two of hip-hop's biggest stars with Irish rockers.
It could have lead to some kind of awkward, uncomfortable mixture of stadium rock, and Brooklyn beats. To my surprise, this single in aid of the Haiti disaster was a well produced, somewhat haunting fusion of Jay-Z's lyrical mastermind, U2's song writing class and Rihanna's detectable vocals. Jay-Z's words add to the rap/poetry debate by reciting lyrics that not only speak volumes about the tragedy in Haiti, but creates a dark, poignant atmosphere with the simple hook: "We gon' put this back together, we won't break!" This song seems somewhat divided from past charity singles; maybe it is down to the standard of artists who contributed, but even so, Stranded is a song that creates a stirring atmosphere, and reaches an emotional and hopefully effective crescendo with powerful lyricism and heartfelt vocals.See the full content of this document
