My goodness! It's only when you see the full picture gallery spread across two pages in the Post and read the stories that you can really appreciate the impact and heartache that the post office closures will have on their local communities ("Now we've been taken off map", May 30).

I wrote a three-page letter on behalf of my local office at Wellington Hill West, drawing attention to such facts as access distances being increased disproportionately since the previous round of closures; relative ease of parking and access at Wellington Hill West; the frequent traffic congestion at the nearest alternative, and the clause in the European Constitution respecting the rights of elderly people to lead a life of independence and dignity. I added that I expected the letter to be read carefully and demanded a structured reply. I received a stock letter instead.
