Summary
IREFER back to Liz Webster's article "King James Bible is sold for a royal sum" (Post, May 10). The King James (authorised version) bible was certainly not the first bible to be translated into English. Wycliffe's translation of the bible preceded the KJV (AV) by about 150-ish years!
Also Henry VIII had a copy of the Great Bible placed in every parish church about fifth years before the AV appeared. It is unlikely that the largely illiterate "masses" benefited any more from the already archaic language of the AV than previously!See the full content of this document
