The proposal to cap the numbers flying from Lulsgate at eight million is probably academic, given the current financial situation and the airport's location.
Expansion of the airport will depend on adequate transport infrastructure which would have to be paid for out of North Somerset's taxes. That is something which is less likely to happen in today's economic climate. The number flying is currently decreasing, but the main obstacle to expansion is urbanisation. Lulsgate is now in much the same position as was Bristol Airport when it had to move from Whitchurch to Lulsgate.See the full content of this document
