DEAN Gerken's man-of-the-match display at Newcastle has turned up the pressure on fellow Bristol City goalkeeper Adriano Basso.
Selected to play against the Coca-Cola Championship leaders on Saturday, Basso was forced to pull out shortly before kick-off after injuring himself during the warm-up at St James' Park. And Gerken, recalled to the substitutes' bench following a long illness, made the most of his opportunity, pulling off a series of spectacular saves as City held out for a goalless draw and a valuable point which keeps them within touching distance of the play-off positions. That could result in Basso being left out in the cold if he refuses to sign the new contract which has been on the table since February.
