Summary
Tuesday, September 13: A TRANSPORT campaign group is calling on the government to refuse Bristol City Council Pounds 28 million of funding for the South Bristol Link. The council submitted its final funding bid for three major transport schemes on Friday, including the Pounds 50 million Ashton Vale-to-Temple Meads rapid transit route; the Pounds 102 million north fringe-to-Hengrove package and the Pounds 45 million south Bristol link. The Department for Transport is due to make a decision on whether it will put money towards any of the schemes in December. If the South Bristol Link bid is approved, the government would pay Pounds 28 million, with the rest coming from Bristol city and North Somerset councils. But Transport for Greater Bristol Alliance is so opposed to the project it has launched a campaign against the funding bid on environmental grounds.
