Michael Phypers is the new sub-postmaster and shop manger at the new-look post office and shop in Mells.
The old Mells stores have been transformed as a result of villagers raising pounds120,000 from grants and donations from local businesses and trusts, including pounds30,000 from the Somerset Aggregates Levy sustainability fund, the Co-operative loan fund and the Village Core Programme. The village itself raised pounds20,000 to ensure the shop stayed open following the current postmaster Rob Tindale's decision to retire after 16 years in the job.
