Life-Saving Skills Put to the Test ; Emergency Training

Summary

STUDENTS from Bristol put their life saving skills to the test watched by the Lord Mayor.

Councillor Geoff Gollop was a guest at Bristol University Lifesaving competition which saw more than 100 competitors from across the country take part in simulated land and water incidents. The land-based 'emergency' tested the team's first aid skills in a simulated roller-skating accident. Teams had to treat a bleeding casualty impaled on railings, an unconscious skater with a head injury and a bystander suffering from a heart attack. The water- based scenario saw the university pool transformed into a disused quarry complete with an array of drowning casualties. Each incident was marked by judges who awarded points for teamwork and lifesaving ability.
