MICHAEL Gove, the Education Secretary, is a gift for cartoonists and sketchwriters. At this time of year, it is easy to imagine him as a schoolboy playing beach cricket - but perhaps not being allowed anywhere near the scoresheet!

In reality, of course, he's no doubt being an embarrassing dad. With or without knotted hankie on his head, he's probably stopping his infants from building sandcastles, even if they've already filled their buckets.
