ONCE again Mike Ford's Bedminster Bigmouth slot is blissfully unaware of the facts - this time on the many benefits of the move to 20mph speed limits in large parts of Bristol (Evening Post, November 25).
Does he not know that according to the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, if you are hit by a car at 40mph, you have an 85 per cent chance of being killed while at 20mph the risk falls to five per cent? The Transport Research Laboratory states that when traffic is slowed down to 20mph, there is a 70 per cent drop in accidents to child pedestrians.See the full content of this document
