First Tenants Move Into New Homes

Summary

ENANTS have moved into new homes which were the first built by a housing association since it took over South Gloucestershire Council's housing stock. Kings Castle Court is a block of ten flats in High Street, built as part of a project that has also seen a new housing office in Kingswood. Now people have moved into Merlin Housing Society's first purpose-built homes since it took over housing from the council in 2007. The development was opened by Merlin's chairman Les Good, who is also a tenant of the association, and Councillor James Hunt, South Gloucestershire's executive member for communities.

They also welcomed the first residents to the flats on land next to Kingswood Civic Centre. Among them was Liam White, who said: "When I came to view the flat, I just thought wow! I knew there and then I wanted to move in." The flats were developed with the Somer Housing Group and built by Halsall Construction. They have been shortlisted for an award in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Award scheme. Merlin's chief executive Ian Matthews said: "This is a real landmark for us as these are the first homes we have developed since we were formed in 2007. I wish Liam and all the other new residents at Kings Castle Court well in their new homes."
