Tyntesfield House and Gardens (Sunday opening only) Situated on a sheltered hillside between Bristol and Clevedon, this spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival country house was home to four generations of the wealthy Gibbs family. Now owned by the National Trust the mansion is, at present, undergoing a complete re-roof. If you've got a head for heights then you are welcome to scale the scaffolding and see how work is progressing. Open 10.30am to 5.30pm, Sunday, September 13, only. Free admission.

Dyrham Park, near Bath (Saturday opening only) Built for the influential Blathwayt family some 300 years ago, this Baroque country mansion is surrounded by 300 acres of gardens and deer park. Inside the house you'll discover Dutch-style delftware, paintings, tapestries and furniture. Saturday, September 12, 11am to 5pm. Free admission.

Prior Park, near Bath (Saturday opening only) Ralph Allen's recently restored 18th century landscaped park - complete with Palladian bridge - is well worth the trip. Don't forget to investigate the newly completed Serpentine Lake and Cascade. Open 11.30am to 4.30pm. Saturday, September 12. Free admission. There is no car parking at Prior Park. Buses can be boarded at Bath bus station.
