A SOUTH Gloucestershire-based internet business which specialises in sending British treats to expats and soldiers across the globe said it has enjoyed one of its most successful years to date. Iron Acton-based British Corner Shop has cornered the market in sending delicacies such as baked beans and cheese and onion crisps to the furthest corners of the globe. And after an incredibly successful year the firm said it was expecting a further 25 per cent in growth over the next 12 months. The company's managing director, Mark Callaghan, said he was delighted with the way things had gone over the last 12 months and was looking forward to even more success. He added: "The demand for British food from expats, British people working abroad and even people of different nationalities who may have lived in the UK in the past, appears to be on the increase. "Selling particularly well at the moment are Fray Bentos pies, tinned black pudding and mar malade."
Mr Callaghan said that it never failed to surprise him just what cuisine people pined for when they moved overseas. He said: "Pot noodles are also very popular, particularly the chicken and mushroom flavour. "We have seen a high demand for pancakes and crumpets too, as well as Maynards Wine Gums and Jelly Babies." The number of orders people have placed with the company increased by just under a third in the course of the last 12 months. Mr Callaghan added: "Despite the Euro zone being under financial pressures at the moment, our exports to Europe are still increasing and demand remains strong. "The wholesale business has seen particularly good growth in 2010 in general, particularly with our own brand lines and larger volumes going into Saudi, along with an expanded product range online." At the start of the year the firm has decided to launch a chilled range and it expects that sales from this should also help increase turnover in 2011.See the full content of this document
