The Bristol suburb of Westbury Park, like its neighbouring districts, began to attract a lot of speculative builders in the late 19th century.

Close to Durdham Down, and high above the throbbing industrial and smoke-laden heart of the city, it attracted many middle-class Bristolians who sought a pollution free area in which to bring up their families.
