AFTER months of hearing Christmas anthems it seems rather strange to be able to walk into a shop or pub without hearing The Pogues and Kirsty McColl blasting out Fairytale of New York.

Turning on the radio no longer means a strong likelihood of hearing Slade roaring Merry Christmas Everybody, or Wham! warbling Last Christmas'.
