A DOWNEND primary school has been placed in special measures after Ofsted inspectors found it was not providing an adequate standard of education.

The learning watchdog was highly critical of teaching, learning and leadership at Stanbridge Primary School. It said it did not think the school, which has more than 400 pupils aged four to 11, was capable of bringing about its own improvements.
